If it’s been a while since you last studied, then you might be having issues motivating yourself to study. But never fear, I’ve got five tips that might help you get back on track and start accumulating some points!

What Are Methods Of Motivation?

Methods of motivation are used in every industry out there from the military to sales to education. Below is a list of methods of motivation. This article will focus on two specific types: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic refers to external factors influencing a person such as rewards and punishments. Intrinsic refers to internal desires or needs.  Some people are motivated by extrinsic factors like money while others prefer an intrinsic approach where they find joy in the work itself.

When a person is intrinsically motivated, they don’t need rewards or praise from their superiors to get them to do something. They do it for the sake of doing it. For example, an artist might not create artwork in order to be paid but instead because he/she has a passion for painting and drawing. Extrinsic motivation works well with people who are less driven or unmotivated since extrinsically motivated people tend to respond better to reward-based systems than those that are intrinsically motivated. It’s no wonder then why most schools use this method! But there comes a time when teachers must find ways of rewarding their students other than through grades on report cards and monthly tests…

1. Work on your attitude

Attitude is the difference between an ordeal and a joy, a punishment and a privilege. It’s what makes the long hours of studying seem short or unbearable, according to Psychcentral .com. An important part of getting motivated to study is changing your thinking about it: lower your stress level by reminding yourself that you’ve been through ‘tough times’ before; think about the future reward – such as getting good grades which will qualify you for admission into college or graduate school; shift your focus from how difficult something is (which lowers self-esteem) to how easy it can be achieved if practiced effectively.

2. Join a Study Group

Psychology Today pointed out that while there are some benefits to studying alone (it helps you fix your own mistakes, for one) being part of a group can increase motivation to study. You’ll be accountable to the group members; and by sitting with them when doing your homework, you can stimulate each other in productive ways. A group member that has the answers will encourage others who are stuck in a particular topic to ask questions – which is essential for learning. It’s also fun and ‘lifts’ your spirits!

3. Make a Top-10 List

Break up long-term goals into short ones by making a top 10 list. According to PT , if you don’t know where to start, check out these suggestions: 1)The easiest academic goal, 2)The most important academic goal, 3)The thing that you would most like to improve. Look at your list every day to keep you motivated and focused. It’s important not to get overwhelmed, so do not force yourself to do everything at once.

4. Reward Yourself

Positive reinforcement does wonders for motivation ! The same PT article shares that giving yourself small rewards can help in academic achievement too; the key is making them attainable (such as getting an A on a tough chapter test). Rewards give you something to look forward to. Give yourself some time during breaks or after studying – watch a funny video clip on Youtube or read your favorite novel – but make sure it’s a reward that excites you!

5. Create An Academic Wall of Fame

Time management is always a problem. To help you overcome the feeling that you don’t have enough time to study, take photos of your high school or college friends with their diploma – now post them on a wall as motivation for doing well in school and getting good grades, Psychcentral .com suggests. They don’t have to be just images from graduation, but your school activity photographs can do too! When you see other people who work hard and get good results, it inspires you to do the same! (I know I am inspired when I look at my best friend’s senior yearbook picture – we were both editors-in-chief of our high school paper.)

6. Explore New Interests

Many students get stuck in a ‘rut’ of studying the same subject all the time, according to Palo Alto Medical Foundation. A change of pace can make you more interested and excited about your academic progress. Creativity and Curiosity are great go-to sources for motivation to study! So look at your AP/IB classes or other school subjects with an open mind. You might be surprised by what you find!

7) Read Motivational Quotes

There’s nothing like a little ‘pep talk’ to keep you going when times get tough , PT emphasized. Here are 6 quotes that will inspire you to achieve greater things, from The Huffington Post: 1) “The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places.”

“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.” —Ernest Hemingway 2) “Some people feel the rain, others just get wet.”

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”—Bob Marley 3) “One day or night we will experience a quantum shift from thinking to knowing.”

“One day or night we will experience a quantum shift from thinking to knowing.” —Deepak Chopra 4) “Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential

In order to be successful in school, you must develop a positive relationship with learning and studying. The next time you have an assignment due, or if you’re having trouble studying for a test, remember to turn on some music that inspires you; pick up a good book; hang a study buddy picture on your wall; take some photos of friends who are studying now so that it will inspire you; watch videos online to relax – but most importantly: stay motivated!

In the end, motivation is something we all need more of at one point or another. It may seem like it’s never enough when we need it most (it has happened many times for me), but if we keep trying and drawing inspiration from others, eventually all our efforts will pay off.
