Introduction

The first impression is the premise of a good composition. A good choice of words and creativity are the pillars necessary to grab the audience’s attention so as not to lose them in the presentation whether speech or a good story; it never matters. One needs to capture the audience’s attention more so in the world of writing where a good book is only as good as its prelude.

A general resume cover letter is no different. In fact, it is more important to beguile the reader, in this case, considering the resume is a plea of consideration. This calls for the writer to not only put down the words in a simple and comprehensive manner but also precise and on the point such that it does not betray unprofessionalism and all the while keeping everything in moderation. Here are the most common ways to write a good cover letter. A paramount rule is that the cover letter is different from the resume as such, they should be clearly distinct. This means that the letter should include nothing in the resume as it will be repetitive which is not good for the resume. Being repetitive might only translate as being incompetent which no employer ever wants to deal with.

Application Cover Letter

A resume cover letter can appear in three different ways, the first is the application cover letter whose main subject is of reply to an open position which was either advertised or recommended to the writer. It should begin with all the preliminaries that such a letter includes beginning with the addressor’s details then the address. After the salutations come to the first paragraph which should include all the formal obligations of the letter such as the reason for the letter and where the source for writing such a letter originated from. This part is not really necessary but it is important as it shows the writer to be professional. Up next is the main body which is the most important part of a good cover letter. Being that the writer is looking for a job, he should take this as the opportunity to market himself. Here, he should put down all the qualities that he has which should include all his views on a particular subject and the experience that he gained from such predilections.

Prospecting Letter

The second type is the prospecting letter. In this case, the applicant has no idea whether there is an opening for a job position and thus is only enquiring so. The company may be hiring but the positions that are open are not clear to the applicant. As such, the letter should let the prospective employer know that you are interested in being a part of the company and so you should put down all your skills in the letter. This type of letter is only different from the first type in the first part where the applicant does not reply to a possible job opening but puts it down that he is available and willing to be part of the company without knowing where he might fit in. as such, the applicant must be able to relate to the company in such a manner that makes him come out as versatile.

Referral Cover letter

Another type is the referral cover letter. in this type, the applicant recommends himself to the company and is only preferable when the applicant has had past experience in another company. They are not necessarily written by the applicant and can be written by other people who are recommending you for the job in a different company. It should include all the experiences gained and the qualifications of the applicant. Most importantly, it should include why the applicant chose to leave the original company and what impact it had on him. Suppose the applicant is writing it himself, he should have a referee on hand as a means of proof for the prospective company.
